National Immunisation Against Polio Begins In Ghana

The National Immunisation against Polio has begun across the country.  

The three day exercise is expected to immunise about 5.7 million children. 

The programme Manger of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation, Dr George Bonsu is optimistic that the programme will be successful. 

He said all the necessary logistics are available to undertake the exercise. 

Meanwhile, more than 500,000 children to be immunised against Polio over three days

The Health Minister, Dr kwaku Agyeman in the company of his deputy are in the Volta Region to partake in the symbolic exercise of immunising children against polio. 

The disease which is deadly is currently on the increase in some African countries like Somalia, Nigeria and Ethiopia. 

Speaking to the media, the Health Minister indicated that systems put in place by the country are working. 

The Health personnel are also working to have every child immunised. 

In Tema, a targeted number of 61,551children under five are expected to be immunised. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Tema Metropolitan Health Director, Dr John Yabani said all is set for the exercise in the Metropolis.
