Ebola outbreak is "accelerating ahead" of control efforts The outbreak of the Ebola virus disease in West Africa is accelerating ahead of the efforts to control it, according to UN officials. The World Health Organization (WHO) says there are now more than 3,500 confirmed cases of the disease in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. More than 1, 500 people have died from the disease which causes internal and external bleeding. Cases of Ebola have also been reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria and Senegal.
