Akufo Addo Emerges winner in NPP’s Special Delegates Congress in Brong-Ahafo Region

After the counting of votes in the NPP's Special Delegates Congress in the Brong-Ahafo Region, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo emerged the winner with 42 Votes out of the 72 votes cast, representing, 58 percent of the votes.  

Alan Kyeremateng came in second with 11 votes votes, while  there was a three way tie in third position with, Joe Ghartey, Addai Nimo and Osei Ameyaw all garnering five votes.   

The two last positions, who now dropout of the race to become NPP Flag-bearer, is occupied by Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, who obtained two votes each.  The Regional Boss of the Electoral Commission, George Gyabaah, supervised the process and announced the results.  

The Brong-Ahafo version of the voting started at 10 after eight and by mid day more than half of the 71 member electoral college had cast their vote.  

The entire college finished just before 2: 30, with the sorting and counting of votes starting at three pm prompt.  The event was largely peaceful with strong Police Presence to deter any untoward behavior.  

As usual dealers in NPP paraphernalia took advantage of the event and did some brisk business.  

A group of Nana Addo supporters who arrived at the venue clad in T'shirts with his picture nearly caused an up roar but in no time tempers were assuaged and the peace that characterized the event was sustained.

From Tamale, Radio Ghana's correspondent Issah Muritala say the 2012 flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffu Addo, polled 62 votes out of 70 ballots cast at the just ended Delegates Congress at the Tamale Sports Stadium. 

As widely expected, the entire auditorium of the stadium was agog with celebration long before the Northern Regional Director of the  Electoral Commission Bruce Ayisi declared the results. 

Nana Addo's perennial rival, Alan Kyeremanteng, polled 4 votes whilst former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joe Ghartey polled 2 votes. Francis Addai also polled 2 votes. 

Meanwhile Dr. Kofi Konadu Appraku, Kofi Osei Ameyaw and Stephen Asamoah Boaten all recorded 0 votes. In all 70 delegates including Nana Addo's running mate Dr. Mahmud Bawumia, successfully cast their ballots with one absentee. 

The process was largely peaceful leaving the large number of security personnel detailed there with little to do.
