Delegates will prune the number of aspirants seeking to lead the party in the 2016 presidential elections from seven to five. The rest are Kofi Osei Ameyaw-a Deputy Minister in the Kufuor government and MP for Asuogyaman and Mr Isaac Osei, MP for Subin. Nana Akufo Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyerematen are seen as the two leading contenders in this race. Though supporters of Nana Akufo Addo maintain that he remains the best candidate to lead the party into victory in 2016, those in the Kyeremanten camp believe Nana Akufo Addo has used all his chances. A member of the party, David Hoezame, earlier sought a judicial order to restrain the NPP from holding the congress, but the Court dismissed the application. Below is the Full Statement: NPP DELEGATES MUST NOT BE INFLUENCED BY CASH As the New Patriotic Party begins the process of electing our Presidential Candidate for the 2016 Elections on Sunday, we, of the Adenta Constituency, wish to urge all delegates taking part in Sunday’s historic Super Delegates Congress to be guided by the Party’s ultimate interest and discard any other considerations which may skew their choice at the voting centres. We of the Adenta Constituency are of no doubt, that for our great New Patriotic Party to win the 2016 Election and redeem the country from the current mess it finds itself in, the party needs to put its best fought forward and elect the flagbearer who is best suited to deliver us victory in 2016. The Party needs to listen to the grounds, to the markets, commercial drivers, farmers and fishermen, the youth and all ordinary Ghanaians and elect the man they are waiting for to vote as President on the ticket of the NPP, which is the only competent party to uplift the people of this country from their poverty and deprivation. Our appeal to the National Executives, Regional Executives, Constituency Chairman, Past National Officers, Founding Members, National Council Members and Members of Parliament taking part in the process on Sunday, is for them to cast a vote that is consistent with their conscience and the wishes of the ordinary party members and sympathizers and other executives who by definition of the constitution are not participating in the Super Delegates Congress on Sunday. We urge the close to 800 delegates taking part in the process to ensure that they stand their grounds and ensure that other considerations will not alter their ultimate wish to see the party in power. Financial dole-outs, lavish promises and mudslinging messages should not be allowed to influence our thoughts ahead of the vote because ultimately, none of these things can win us power in 2016. What can win the party power is the election of a popular candidate, a strong and united party and a committed flagbearer and party executives, ready to do everything to see the party succeed in 2016. The Adenta Constituency Executives are convinced that with our eyes on the ball and with our only motivation being the quest to see the party in power in 2016, we will emerge out of Sunday’s process with a united and loud message on the direction of the party and begin the hard work of reclaiming power come 2016. With God on our side, the NPP will succeed in 2016. Ebenezer Doku Adentan Constituency 0266666951 Shadrach Oppong Sika Ahafo Ano South 0240728447 Takyi Idun Gomoa Central 0247686601
