Ebola Preparedness At Tertiary Level

In an effort to protect Ghana’s basic and second cycle schools from the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) the Minister of Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang is convening a special meeting of stakeholders to discuss and strategize on adopting mitigating factors as well as to develop a comprehensive operational response plan. 

This was contained in a statement issued in Accra by the Ministry of Education on August 29 and copied to Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

The statement which was signed by the Public Relations Director of the Ministry Paul Kofi Krampah says the meeting follows a successful engagements at the tertiary level and it is now the turn of the pre-tertiary sector as Government ensures that all academic institutions are adequately covered by the national preparedness strategy.

EBOLA PREPAREDNESS AT THE PRE-TERTIARY LEVEL 

In an effort to protect Ghana’s basic and second cycle schools from the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) the Minister of Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang is convening a special meeting of stakeholders to discuss and strategize on adopting mitigating factors as well as to develop a comprehensive operational response plan. 

The meeting will discuss among other things, the following: 
• The situation 
• Surveillance 
• Risk Assessment 
• Communication and Social Mobilization 
• Infection Control and 
• Logistics 

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Education Village (NCTE Compound), East Legon, Accra on Monday the 1st of September, 2014 at 11am. 

Invited stakeholders include: 
1. Chairman, Inter-Ministerial Committee on Ebola, Ministry of Health 
2. GES Committee on Ebola/Cholera (Basic Education) 
3. Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools 
4. All Regional Directors of Education 
5. Ghana National Association of Private Schools (Basic Private Schools) 
6. Conference of Directors of Education (CODE) Regional Executives 
7. National Parent Teacher Association 
8. Association of Principals of Technical Institutes 

This meeting follows successful engagements at the tertiary level and it is now the turn of the pre-tertiary sector as Government ensures that all academic institutions are adequately covered by the national preparedness strategy. 

Parents and guardians of pupils will be communicated to through the mass media and other mediums on their role under the national preparedness strategy after this meeting.
