The Daily Graphic commends 17 year old Martha Bissah who became the first Ghanaian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal when she ran her personal best and made a new national 800-metre record. The paper is of the view that as a country much attention has not been given to areas such as boxing, which Ghana is known to have great talents. The Graphic calls for the redirection of attention to other sporting disciplines through higher budgetary allocation. Also more attention should be directed at catching sports talents young by providing sports facilities for basic and second cycle schools sports festivals which in the past produced great talents for the country. 

The Ghanaian Times agrees with the Minister of Education Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang that there are advantages in teaching in the local languages. However, the paper thinks this might not be practicable in every part of the country. The paper believes the solution to our educational problems is not solely in the medium of instruction at the basic levels, instead the provision of structures and availability of qualified and dedicated teachers.

The Daily Heritage comments on the need to make the town council system effective. The paper says the town council system was very helpful in the 1990s because most people kept their surroundings clean just to avoid the wrath of the officers going round to check homes. It says now that people's surroundings have been left for waste management to clean due to high level of indiscipline among the citizens, the district assembles must start working around the clock to bring back the system to control the level of moral decay being exhibited. The Heritage feels sanitation management is a collective effort by the government, assemblies and the citizens hence should not be left in the hands of the Assemblies alone because the citizens play a major role in keeping the communities clean.

The Today Newspaper considers as alarming the increasing rate of Cholera cases. The paper believes much is not being alone to fight the disease. In the papers view much attention is not given to the disease as is being done to the Ebola virus. It is in view of this that the paper encourages Ghanaians to work assiduously to help fight the Cholera outbreak.
