Proponents Of Winner-Takes-All Concept Cautioned To Tread Cautiously

The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rt. Rev. Professor
Emmanuel Asante, has asked the government and political parties to examine the winner takes all governance system to strengthen
governance and balance political power in the country. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana Rev.Professor Asante suggested that a balance of power in the country will enhance the concept of unity in diversity.

Rev. Professor Asante also believes there is the need to look at how to strengthen institutions such as the Council of state, Parliament and the Judiciary to speed up the development of the country.

Meanwhile a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Centre for International Affairs, Dr. Ken Ahorsu has cautioned government and proponents of the
concept to tread cautiously with its introduction. 

According to him, the advocates must rather come up with a solution to the vilified nature of politics in Ghana. 

Dr. Ahorsu questioned the calibre of people the proponents would want appointed. 

To him there is the need for the advocates to propose a concrete alternative to the winner takes all concept. 

He said the issue calls for wider consultation before a consensus is built on the concept.
