Israel Intensifies Gaza Attacks after Netanyahu Warning 

Reports say Gaza has seen one of its heaviest nights of bombardment in three weeks, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of a long conflict ahead. 

Gaza's only power plant was damaged as Israel carried out 60 air strikes as well as targeting sites associated with Hamas.  

At least 60 people died in Gaza, possibly including UN staff members.  An Israeli military spokesman said the strikes signaled a "gradual increase in the pressure" on Hamas.  

The UN has warned that its agencies in Gaza did not have the resources to help an extra influx of people.  

Israel says it issued such warnings to try to avoid civilian casualties. 

Palestinian officials say one thousand, 115 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed in the fighting since the 8th of this month while Israel has lost 53 soldiers and three civilians.
