FOWIS Solicit Funds to Support the Black Princesses


Foundation for Women in Sports (FOWIS) has embarked on a float to solicit funds to sponsor Supporters to cheer the Black Princesses at the U20 Women’s World Cup in Canada next month.
    
The Foundation, a fortnight ago donated items including sanitary napkins, deodorants, soaps; under-wears among others worth GH 5,000 to the female players to motivate the team to excel in the tourney and raise the flag of Ghana high as the Black Stars disappointed Ghanaians in the just ended World Cup.
     
The float started from the Arts center through the principal streets of  Accra to meet the National President of Market Women Association at Makola, Nee Djan who urged Ghanaians to render their support to the team and appealed to the government to support the players as done to the Black Stars to achieve the ultimate goal in the competition.
    
She said “I believe that by the grace of God, the players will bring the trophy home to make women proud. We wish them good luck. I believe that this female team who are not given the much attention will make the nation proud. Though there is not much support from corporate entities, with this association, we are ready to engage women in higher positions to support our course.
    
The Public Relations Officer, Afua Boakye revealed that, tournaments will be organized for them to train the national female teams before national and international competitions.
     
Boakye said, they have tasked themselves to empower every female athlete in sports to seek higher education as part of the discipline to give them life after their sport career.
     
“We will also be having tournaments for them in order to train and not just wait for national or international competitions. We had a chat with them and some of them want to go back to school to learn trade. We have started organizing sports clinics with these girls to see where we can help”.
      
“Those who want to go back to school will be put on sponsorship whilst those who want trade can learn tailoring, hair dressing and others. The association is not just about tournament but it happened that after we launch the group, the event closer was the Black Princesses that’s why we decided to put our all to rally behind them”.
     
Director of the Association, Olivia Akosua Gonzalez added that, though some organizations have donated to the Association, they appealing to the average person to support the Black Princesses.
     
“This is a fund raiser to support the team Ghana at the World Cup. We are hitting the streets to solicit for funds from the average person. Though we had some entities donating to the foundation we are estimating a sum of four hundred dollars to support about 200 fans to Canada. We also want the supporters to go out and have fun if Ghana is not playing. We just want the players to relax and make Ghana proud by reaching the ultimate”.
     
The Black Princesses are housed in Group A alongside hosts Canada, Korea DPR and Finland.
