Demonstrators To Converge at Obra Spot Circle

The leadership of organised labour has informed workers in the country and the public at large that the announced nationwide demonstrations will come on as planned today,  Thursday July 24, 2014.

A statement signed on behalf or organised labour by Mr Kofi Asamoah, leader of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (GTUC), and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said workers in the Greater Accra Region are to converge at the Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle at 06:30 hours.

The workers will then move to the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations to present a petition to the President through the sector Minister, it added.

The statement said all workers in the country, formal and informal were to converge at designated locations in Accra and other regional capitals for the  demonstration.

It called on all industries and employers and all well-meaning Ghanaians feeling the pinch of the prevailing economic situation to support and join the clarion call.

Meanwhile, the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union of the TUC has also asked its members to mobilise and fully participate in the demonstration.

It said the purpose of the demonstration was to press home to the government and the managers of the economy, the Union's disapproval of the way the nation's economy was being managed, resulting in hardship and suffering on the part of workers and the entire population.
