President Mahama Appeals to Organised Labour to Rescind Decision to Demonstrate as He Receives Senchi Report 


President John Dramani Mahama has appealed to Organised Labour to
exercise restraint as government takes strategic measures to address
the challenges facing the economy. 

He reiterated that the challenges
are temporary and the medium-term prospects of the economy are bright.

Speaking at the Flagstaff House in Accra after receiving the Senchi
Report from the Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, President Mahama
said the strategic measures taken by government will also go a long
way in addressing the structural challenges of the economy.
 
President Mahama said although the report delayed, the quality of work done would justify the long wait.

He said even as the report was yet to come out, the government was proactive in implementing some of the suggestions that came out of the meeting.

He said, for instance, that the mid-year budget presented last week was informed by some of the discussions that took place at Senchi.

The President stated that the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and a government team were busily working on a national development framework which he was enjoined to present to Parliament before the end of this year.

Mr Mahama gave an assurance that the outcome of the Senchi Forum would have a place in the framework that would be presented.

The President expressed the hope that the Senchi report would strengthen the government's economic management and added that an advisory committee would be set up to monitor the implementation of the report.
