EU’s Action Programme to Raise Funds for Africa’s Peace and Security

The EU has adopted an action programme that will provide seven hundred and 50 million pounds within two years to support peace and security in Africa.

This was announced by the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, at the Africa- EU summit.

The funding will be channelled through the African Peace Facility, APF, to support the African Union and the sub-regional organizations in their peace and security efforts.

According to a statement issued in Accra, an initial amount of three hundred and 25 million pounds will be released this year for ongoing peace operations.

The stamen said with this action programme, the APF will continue to support peace operations, strengthen African Peace and Security Architecture, APSA, and facilitate actions aimed at conflict prevention and crisis management.
