Majority Rejects Legislative Inquiry into Ghana's Brazil Showing 

A Private Member’s Motion spearheaded by Minority Members of Parliament for a Committee of Enquiry to be constituted to look into the nation’s participation in the just ended world cup was on Monday overwhelmingly rejected by Majority of Members of Parliament.
 
The motion was filed on behalf of the minority by the Ranking Member on the Youth, Sports and Culture Committee, Isaac Kwame Asiamah.
 
In his application, Mr. Asiamah said the country’s abysmal showing in Brazil left much to be desired.
 
He therefore sought the House to set up a bipartisan Parliamentary Committee to investigate events and activities before, during and after Ghana’s preparation and participation in Brazil 2014.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Mahama Ayariga however countered Mr. Asiamah’s request saying  the President had already set up a commission to look into the matter in question.
 
He said there was already in existence Constitutional Instrument (CI) 82 which was promulgated and gazetted on July 11 to give authority to the commission already set up. He therefore noted that the application by his colleague was flawed.

After a long debate over the turn of events, the Speaker had to determine the sense of the House over Parliament looking the Stars Brazil quest. 

He however, expressed shock at the birth of the constitutional provision referring to it as an act of bad faith.

The majority side, with their numerical strength was able to halt Parliament from going into the motion.
 
They voted 96 to 87 against the motion in a headcount.
 
The Speaker, Edward Doe Adjaho, had to resort to the headcount after an earlier voice vote failed to produce a clear result.
