Women in Sports donates to U/20 Female National Team
 

Foundation for Women in Sports has donated items worth GHC 5000 to the Under 20 Women National football Team ahead of the 2014 World Cup Tournament in Canada.  
     
The items include sanitary napkins, deodorants, detergents, soaps, under-wears and other related items.
     
Mrs. Olivia Akosua- Owusua Golzalez, Director of the Foundation for Women In Sports, said the donation was an effort to motivate the team, to excel in the forth coming tournament in Canada.
    
She wished the team a successful tournament and urged them to do well, saying, “you are representing the country and as such u must make us proud.”
     
Mr. George Afriyie, Member of the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), who received the items, said the donation had been timely, and believed this will inspire the team to achieve its objectives.
    
He said the donation demonstrates that there is a group of women in the society, who are fighting the cause of developing women through sports.
     
Mr. Afriyie commended the foundation and called on Corporate Ghana to support the team, and women, who have developed interest in Sports, at large.

Nana Ama Amissah II, Executive Director of the foundation, described the foundation as an NGO with the mission of empowering women through sports.
     
She said society had neglected young women so far as their welfare was concerned and this had contributed to teenage pregnancy and other related issues.
     
According to her, the foundation will hold other activities after the tournament, which includes workshops that would prepare them for the future.
    
She said the foundation will also mobilize supporters to cheer them up, adding that, “each member of the team will have the opportunity to select any close relative; in addition to the fans who will be sent to Canada”.
     
Speaking on projects; Nana Ama Amissah II, who is also the Paramount Queen mother of the Mankessim Traditional Area, said the foundation will build a Sports College to help young women, who have developed interest in sports.
     
She appealed to the Presidency, NGO’s, women caucus in parliament and benevolent individuals to support the worthy course.
     
Mr. Jones Owusu Yeboah, Executive Director of SEWA Foundation, said the donation was an initiative of a committee formed under the Foundation for Women in Sports.
      
He said the committee, which has the mandate of raising funds through an awareness campaign and mobilizing supporters is chaired by Nii Kojo, CEO of Nii Kojo and Associates.
      
The Executive Director noted that “the female National Teams were mostly ignored in times of preparations towards their tournament, and these girls return home with nothing to boast of.”
      
Mr. Owusu-Yeboah appealed to female radio and television presenters to use their platforms to promote the aspirations of women in the society.
      
Aside the donation, the Black Princesses were also offered cosmetology services.
