Computers To Get Smarter And More Energy-efficient
 
Rainer Waser is one of the winners of the 2014 Leibniz Prize, Germany's most prestigious research prize. 

The trained electrochemist studies nano-materials at the Jülich Research Center and Aachen University. 

Waser wants to make computers more energy-efficient based on the example of the human brain. 

The idea is to make computer chips that work as effectively as neurons thanks to new materials and a new technology that puts data storage and processing units on the same chip.
 
That architectural change makes data transport faster and saves energy.
 
He added that instead of having just either ON or OFF in computer systems we will have intermediate states.
