Asantehene To Grace This Year's GJA Awards scheduled for August 30 in Accra The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu has accepted to be the Guest Speaker at the 19th Ghana Journalists Association Awards, scheduled for the 30th of August. The Otumfuo accepted the honor, when the President of the GJA, Roland Affail Monney called on him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to present a formal invitation to him. The GJA President was accompanied by the Organising Secretary, Rogkin Clottey and some Regional Executives of the Association. Mr. Monney said the theme for the 19th Awards using development Journalism to discern and defend the national interest was chosen in furtherance of the GJA’s efforts at contributing to building a strong and stable democracy in Ghana. It is also to motivate the media to inspire national development through mentoring national projects and programmes and in holding public officers accountable. He said the event will also be used to acknowledge Ghana’s progress in freedom of the press and free expression and to consider issues of concern with regard to media development in Ghana. Mr. Monney said the choice of Outmfuo Osei Tutu as Guest Speaker for the GJA’s flagship event, is in view of the significant role he has played and continues to play in Ghana’s development efforts. Otumfuo Osei Tutu thanked the National Officers of the GJA for the honour done him. He noted the vital role the media plays in the development aspiration of the country.
