The US Embassy support the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs. 

The US government has announced a one-million cedi support for the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs. 

The support is to be used to conduct research on harmful traditional practices such as female genital mutilation and witchcraft accusations. 

The US Ambassador to Ghana, Jean Cretz, disclosed the financial package to the Ministry, when he paid a courtesy call on the Northern Regional Minster, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru-Limuna. 

Also present at the meeting was the Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, Dr. Henry Seidu Daanaa. 

The US Ambassador also addressed the Northern Regional House of Chiefs where he stated that, the United States has no intention of interfering in the traditional practices in Ghana, but to help change some harmful socio-cultural practices such as banishment of alleged witches and allowing the rule of law to prevail. 

The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru-Limuna, expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of the region for the numerous projects the US government has undertaken in the region to better their lives. 

He appealed to the Ambassador to support efforts at documenting chieftaincy successions in various traditional areas in the region. 

He said the lack of documentation of chieftaincy successions and land boundaries, have created many conflicts in the region.
