Action against extensive abuse of elderly people. Help Age Ghana has implored individuals and institutions to take action against extensive abuse of elderly people. This is because the elderly according to the NGO have suffered so much abuse especially witchcraft accusations. This was contained in a statement issued by the Executive Director of Help Age Ghana, Ebenezer Adgetey Sorsey. The statement says though positive moves have been seen in the past months by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in facilitating the registering of the elderly under the NHIS, a lot more needs to be done. The statement also calls on government to adopt the international Human Rights instrument prohibiting violence against the elderly which currently does not exist. The adoption of standard within the AU and UN would provide every government with guidance on how to improve their domestic legislation and practice of the aged. Source: GBC
