Rally for Palestine at end of World Social Forum in Tunis

More than 15 thousand people marched in central Tunis on Saturday to mark the end of the World Social Forum in Tunisia. 

The march also coincided with Land Day commemorations in the Palestinian territories and parts of Israel to mark the 1976 killing of six Arab Israelis protesting against plans to confiscate Arab land. 

Arab participants in the march chanted "Land, liberty, dignity," as they made their way through the principal streets of Tunis from the emblematic Habib Bourguiba Avenue -- epicentre of the 2011 protests in Tunisia that sparked the Arab Spring -- down Mohamed Cinq Avenue to the Palestinian Embassy. 

They were joined by activists from all countries who were also marching for the various causes they came to fight for at the World Social Forum. The march was threatened by cloudy weather and sporadic showers but it still took place. 

During the forum itself, hundreds of workshops were held to discuss a variety of political and social problems, as well as the economic grievances of the developing world.
