Paragliding Festival Records High Patronage Patronage at this year’s Paragliding Festival at the Odweanoma Mountains near Atibie in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region seems to be higher than that of last year despite the low publicity and financial constraints. According to some official of the Ghana Tourism Authority, about 42 tourists including British, Americans, Norwegians s and Nigerians were flown yesterday while 25 had participated in the paragliding as at 12:30 pm today. More people were still in queue registering to be flown, however majority of them were foreigners. Apart from a 37 year old Nigerian, Lony Nogeh, who had difficulty in flying solely twice, all others, with the support of the foreign pilots had a smooth paragliding. The Director General of Operations in the Ghana Police Service, COP John Kudelor, who visited the ceremony today to see the extent of security, commended those who initiated the programme and urged the Ghana Tourism Authority to keep it up. He said the security personnel including those dispatch from Accra are there to check the bad nuts who wants to use the festive occasion to indulge in vices and asked the public to be rest assured. Mr. Kudelor charged the Security Personnel to deal with those who use unregistered cars and motor bikes since it violates the driving regulations. The Acting Eastern Regional Police Commander, James Abass Abaah, who accompanied him, advised the public to volunteer information to the police to put suspect behind bars to serve as deterrent to others. More people will have been flown today had there not be a down pour at 2 pm. GBC
