TEWU suspends strike The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has suspended its strike with effect from Wednesday to enable negotiations to resolve its grievances to continue. Accordingly it has called on all its members in the Ghana Education Service (GES) to suspend the strike until further notice. In a statement signed by its National Chairman Peter Lumor and Acting General Secretary Ralph Apaaya, it says the decision was taken at a meeting of the Management Committee on Wednesday. The statement says members expect that their grievances including the payment of the 15 per cent critical support premium to eleven classes of the non-teaching staff of the GES and the non-payment of over time allowances to security staff among others would be resolved to forestall further action. The suspension of the strike by TEWU comes a day after teachers had suspended their action following appeals by President John Mahama and the assurance that their issues will be looked into GBC
