Ghanaians' Appeal To GNAT And  NAGRAT To Rescind Decision To Embark On Strike

Just when government is trying to find lasting solution to the current energy and water crisis, the country's teachers have also added another hurdle for the government to scale. 
 
Members of NAGRAT and GNAT on Friday declared an indefinite nationwide strike starting from Monday 18th March owing to government  failure to resolve some grievances relating to the service conditions of teachers.
  
According to the teachers their grievances include non negotiation of category two and three allowances and the retention premium for teachers.  

The two groups accuse the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission for its failure to negotiate category two and three allowances for teachers and the refusal of the commission to negotiate retention premium for teachers. 
 
Meanwhile, the public  is pleading  with GNAT and  NAGRAT  to rescind their  decision on their  intended strike, which is to start on Monday. Sampling the views of members of the public, they said leadership of the two groups should meet with authorities to resolve their grievances.

First is the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante who asked the  Teachers not  to do anything  that may jeopardise the  aspirations of the students. 
 
He also appealed to the  Fair Wages and  Salaries Commission and government to expedite  action on the  issues  at  stake   to ensure a smooth examination.

A Concerned Parent, Mrs. Janet  Amegashitsi also appealed to the  parties  involved to resolve the  issues quickly to forestall any circumstances that will not inure  to the  benefit  of the innocent students.

A Gender Activist, Adolf Bekoe also indicated that though the teachers have raised pertinent issues on salaries which need attention.
 
This, he believes will have less impact on the upcoming WASSCE.  Mr. Bekoe has therefore encouraged the students not to be bothered about the happening, but rather study hard to pass their exams.
