Tamale: Rainstorm kills one at Kalpohini One person died at Kalpohini, a suburb of Tamale, when a rainstorm hit parts of the Northern Region last Thursday evening. The deceased, Mallam Bala, was reportedly hit by a container that was carried by strong wind. He died while being rushed to the hospital. About 155 houses located in the Nyanshegu/Gumani Electoral Area and Kalpohini were also destroyed by the storm. According to the Operations Officer of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Tamale, Bawa Yakubu, 1,000 were rendered homeless by the storm. He explained that currently the victims were putting up with their respective relatives and friends. He noted that there was currently no relief item to be given to the victims. The Assembly Member for the Nyanshegu/Gumani Electoral Area, Mr Mohammed Zakaria, for his part stated that the storm was so severe that a significant number of persons could not sleep in their respective homes. Last week, a similar disaster occurred in the Savelugu-Nanton District which affected 10 communities.
