GBC workers tasked to make the Corporation’s presence felt online A Five-day training for some workers from the Information and Communications Technology,(ICT) department of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) is underway in Accra. The training is aimed at enhancing the knowledge of the workers in that field. Speaking at the opening of the training, Director-General, Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, Ms. Dorothy K. Gordon, says New Media or Social Media has become very critical for media organizations because it is easily one of the fastest growing technologies today. According to her new media provides virtually instant access to information throughout the world, thus giving businesses the ability to share news about their products and services with people that were once out of reach. Ms Gordon stressed the need for GBC to make its presence felt online since the world is going towards that direction and GBC cannot be left out. She therefore tasked participants to take the training seriously to bring a change in the media outlook of the corporation. She also encouraged participants to take keen interest and go out there to educate fellow colleagues to use ICT in their daily deliberations to enable them to contribute to marketing the Corporation. For his part, the Director General of GBC Mr Berifi Apenteng was full of praise for the Director-General, Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT . He said the various social media platforms have provided avenues for the electronic and print media and challenged participants to take the training seriously since the world is now moving in that direction.
