Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament meets power producers The Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament has met with the power producers to know at first hand the problems facing the energy sector and what the producers and suppliers are doing to salvage the situation. The Committee met heads of the ECG, VRA, GRIDCO and the Energy Commission. Briefing the media in Parliament, the Chairman of the Committee Dr. Kwabena Donkor acknowledged the challenges bedeviling the sector but added that the Committee has been assured of some relief by the end of next month. The Chairman of the Mines and Energy Committee Dr. Kwabena Donkor said though short term measures put in place to remedy the energy crisis seem to be adequate, more concentration should be on the medium to long term strategies. Meanwhile Parliament has approved three regional ministerial nominees. They are; Eastern Julius Debrah, Upper East, Dr. Avea Ephraim Nsoh and Volta, Hellen Adjoa Ntoso. The Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Ebo Barton Odro said the three have proved to be capable of handling the various regions assigned them. He said for their recommendation by the Committee for approval was without reservations. Contributing to the motion for their endorsement, the MP for Hohoe, Dr. Mrs. Bernice Heloo singled out Madam Ntoso as a woman whose tract record will spur her on if given the nod. MP for Yilo Krobo, Magnus Amoatey said all the nominees had made clear their plans to improve job creation in their jurisdictions and so Parliament needs to give them the necessary push by approving them.
