Speaker in Ouagadougou for 1st Ordinary Session of 5 Parliament of the National Assembly of Burkina Faso 



Ghana has reiterated its commitment towards working closely together with its neighboring countries to enact laws that will provide the platform for enhanced political and economic co-operation. 

The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho said this when he addressed the First Ordinary Session of the Fifth Parliament of the National Assembly of Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou. 

As a first step the Speaker has endorsed the establishment of a Bilingual Educational Programme for members of Parliaments of Ghana and Burkina Faso to widen the scope of interactions and thereby facilitates the legislative integration of the two countries. 

Mr. Adjaho paid tribute to the various Joint Commissions that were established in the past to pave way for the accelerated development of the two countries. He singled out the commissions’ role in promoting relations in the usage of our common water resources and in dealing with issues in the areas of agriculture development in the two countries. 

Mr. Adjaho said members of the two Parliaments could take steps to lift the relations of the two countries to a level where there will be more fruitful collaboration in all aspects of their democratic dispensations. He reminded members of the party in government not to underestimate the role of the opposition party, stressing that a party in opposition is a potential government in waiting. 

The Speaker of the Burkinabe Parliament, Sungalo Quatarra congratulated Ghana on her 56th Independence Anniversary and also called for close collaborations of the two Parliaments. 

On the issue of Mali, Speaker Sungalo Quatarra urged peace-loving countries particularly those in the sub-region to redouble efforts towards achieving lasting solutions to the crisis. 

The Parliamentary delegation including Joseph Yileh Chireh, MP for Wa West, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, MP for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Comfort Dela Sowah, MP for Kpando and the Clerk to Parliament Emmanuel Anyimadu has since returned home.
