Energy Minister urges WAPCo to adhere to schedule

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has urged the Management of the West African Gas Pipeline Company, WAPCo, to adhere to the scheduled date of the resumption of operations of the pipeline. 

According to him, the ever growing significance of gas supply to the region and the importance Ghana attaches to the project make it imperative for WAPCO to do all it can to meet the target date. 

Mr. Buah made the call at a meeting with officials of WAPCo in Accra.  

The officials of the Company were in the country to brief the minister on progress of the re-commissioned  works on the pipeline.  

Recalling two instances where the scheduled dates were not met, Mr. Buah said plans are underway to meet with officials of N-gas of Nigeria to discuss the availability of gas supplies to the country as soon as work on the pipeline is completed. 

The Managing Director of WAPCo, Charles Adeniji, said the company has successfully completed integrity testing of the pipeline connectors. 

He said the contractors engaged to undertake the re-commissioned works  are removing water from it and hopes that the deadline of April 30, will be met.
