Acting IGP assures to provide safety and security to all citizens The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Alhassan, has assured the public that the Police have put in place measures to ensure a smooth 56th independence celebration. He said the MTTU has deployed personnel on the roads to ensure safety of all road users and provide security to all citizens. The IGP said this when he toured some communities along the Accra -Cape Coast road to determine why the route has become accident prone. In another development the Director-General of Police Operations, COP Mr. John Kudalor has cautioned Police Officers who might have joined the Service with the notion of finding “gold pit”. COP Kudalor issued this warning when he reviewed the Passing out Parade of two hundred a, nd ninety one (291) recruits at the National Police Training School in Accra on Friday . COP Kudalor did not mince words in issuing the warning and describing such characters as “galamseyers” who will surely be smoked out and dealt with in line with the Service “image cleansing exercise”. The 291 graduants who are mainly Police drivers, motor riders and mechanics were urged to see themselves as peace officer who holds “the key to life and death” and must therefore strictly observe all traffic regulations and also enforce them to ensure safety on the roads. Mr. Kudalor also reminded the recruits that they are passing out at a time the Government of Ghana has given a good number of vehicles and other logistics to the Police to support in the fight against crime, and the best way to express their gratitude to the government and people of Ghana and justify the investment is to adhere to the culture of maintenance and serve the citizenry well. COP Kudalor also disclosed that the Police Administration has undertaken various policy interventions in the area of reforms and restructuring with the view to improving the skills, competence and professionalism of personnel. And that is it in pursuance of such strategic interventions that the Administration created the Ghana Police Patrol Division at the Police Headquarters to coordinate the activities of all patrol units within the Service so as to ensure “proactiveness, visibility, presence and accessibility across the country”. Touching on Police/public cooperation, COP Kudalor admitted that there is very little the Police can achieve in terms of its objectives unless the public, who are major stakeholders actively cooperate and assist in the fight against crime. He therefore called for volunteering of relevant information which leads to the arrest of criminals. The two hundred and ninety one (291) recruits were taken though six months intensive basic Police training, where they were taught subjects such as, practical police duties, law of evidence, criminal investigations, criminal procedure, report writing, drills and duties, weapon training, physical training among others. G/recruits Samuel Quayefio emerged as the overall best recruits. GBC
