Five mourners burnt to death in an accident Five mourners who were on board a pick-up vehicle which was also carrying a corpse were burnt to death when the vehicle was involved in an accident and caught fire. The accident happened Friday evening at Ajumako Bebianiha in the Agona West Municipality of the Central region. The victims were carrying the remains of their deceased relative, who had apparently died through a motor accident to Agona Abodom for burial and final funeral rites when they met their death. The five, including a Roman Catholic Priest identified as Reverend Kofi Yeboah were trapped in the vehicle and got burnt beyond recognition. The Priest was the one driving the vehicle and the four were sitting behind the driver’s seat. The corpse was in the bucket of the pick-up. Two other persons who were sitting on the front passenger seat survived the accident and have since been treated and discharged at the Ajumako Government Hospital. The charred bodies of the deceased, three females and two males have since been deposited at the morgue of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Hospital at Breman Asikuma. The rest are yet to be identified The Ajumako Enyan Essiam District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Seth Tay told Graphic Online that his outfit was informed around 5pm that the accident had occurred. According to him, those involved in the accident had gone to a private morgue at Abowinim within the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District to convey the corpse to Agona Abodom for the final funeral rites. He said the accident occurred at Ajumako Bebianiha and that the vehicle somersaulted several times before landing with the tyres in the air. He said the two survivors were occupying the front passenger seat and that they fell off the vehicle and sustained injuries. The police officer said the corpse which the accident victims were carrying had apparently died through a road accident and that the family members were sending it to Abodom for the funeral. He said it was not clear if the funeral would go ahead. At around 9pm Friday night that Graphic Online visited the scene, the vehicle involved in the accident had been burnt beyond repairs.
