Appointments C’tee vets three ministerial nominees The Appointment Committee of Parliament vetted three Regional Minister nominees. First to appear before the Appointment Committee was the nominee for the Eastern Region, Julius Debrah. He was quizzed on issues concerning tourism potential in the region, how he is going to work in terrain that is consider NPP strong hold, menace of galamsey and chieftaincy challenges. On tourism he said he will make efforts to package all sites and cultural practices into tourism packages to attract tourists and investors. Mr. Debrah told the Committee that galamsey is a menace in the region that all efforts will be made to discourage people from engaging in the practice. On foreigners engaging in galamsey he said there will not be any compromise as the law bars them from engaging in even small scale mining. The Nominee for the Upper East Region, Dr. Avea Ephraim Nsoh, said high on his priority will be to address the level of poverty in the region. He explained that he will lead the way for the resolution of conflicts in the region especially that of Bawku. The Nominee for the Volta Region, Hellen Adjoa Ntoso who is the first ever female Minister to head the region if given the nod, said she will collaborate with the Regional House of Chiefs and other stakeholders to ensure peace in conflict prone areas. She was questioned on operations of NADMO, job creation, how to bring the people with diverse background together for the development of the region. Ms. Ntoso spoke about plans for disaster management in the region. GBC
