NADMO lauds civil society for their involvement in rescue missions as world marks Civil Defence Day.  

Ghana today joined other member states of the International Civil Defence Organisation, ICDO, to celebrate World Civil Defence Day. 

The day celebrated under the auspices of the International Civil Defence Organisation, is set aside to highlight the importance of civil defence and social protection for all citizens at work, schools and homes. It also provides the platform to raise awareness to prepare for and prevent disasters. 

This year's celebration is on the theme "Civil Protection and Preparation of Civil Society for Disaster Risk Prevention". 

A statement signed by the National Coordinator of  NADMO, Kofi Portuphy, said in recent years, the world has witnessed many  disasters  both natural and man-made. 

Ghana he said is no exception with series of road accidents, devastating floods and fires and the most recent being the collapse of the Melcom building which claimed lives and injured a lot of people. 

The statement applauds all civil society organisations and emergency services for their participation and involvement in rescue missions. 

It also salutes heroes and heroines of Civil Society Organisations and Emergency Services who met their untimely death, got injured while responding to disaster in Ghana and other parts of the world.

It reiterates the need to build safer homes and communities based on solidarity, mobilization, volunteer recruitment and community preparedness to secure a better future for generations  to come.
