Experts on new vaccines for children

A Deputy Director of Nursing Services of the Ghana Health Service, Margaretta Gloria Chandi, says children are affected with pneumonia and diarrhoea even before they attain the age of five.

It is in line with this that the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service, in partnership with other agencies have introduced the Pneumococcal and Rotavirus vaccines to protect children between two and six months. 

Madam Margaretta Gloria Chandi said this on Radio Ghana's Current Affairs Programme, FOCUS.

Madam Gloria Chandi noted that though the vaccines have side effects, they are rear. She also explained the mode of administration of the vaccines and advised parents not to send their children elsewhere to be immunised apart from recognised health facilities across the country.

Also on the programme was Madam Comfort Antwi of the Korle-Bu Public Health Nurses School. She explained why the new vaccines were introduced.

Madam Comfort Antwi said available statistics indicate that the diseases are the deadliest among children.
