“Chriszonto” is Unacceptable The Head Pastor of Liberty Centre Assemblies of God Church at Sunyani-Estate, Rev. Joseph Danquah says under no circumstance should the Azonto dance be condoned in churches as people are trying to introduce it into churches under the guise of “Chriszonto”. The Azonto dance is gradually gaining roots in many congregations especially among the youth. He said like any other unchristian lifestyle, Azonto must be reserved for the circular world. Rev. Danquah who was speaking in an interview with the GBC in Sunyani observed that most of the Christian youth who are taken by the latest contemporary dance form in Ghana are ignorant and therefore exhibit "Chriszonto" under the pretext of excitement in the Lord. He emphasized that Christian youth have the warrant to glorify God through dancing and must kowtow to Christian principles, saying as Christians we must speak and dance like Christ like people. Rev. Danquah also urged his fellow Reverend Ministers to help discourage their congregations from the dance but he was quick to add that the sensitization should be done in humility and a patience manner so as not to make them downhearted. Touching on some other issues, the Man of God also expressed concern about the alarming rate at which some Christians curse people with various traditional shrines, adding that the trend is unacceptable and unfortunate among Christian believers. Rev. Danquah noted that it is better to remain clean in the presence of the Lord and loss the trust of man rather than adopting contradictory Christian values that will please the world. Buttressing his claims with a Bible quote, he said Joseph never cursed his brothers when they sold him to the Egyptians. He therefore entreated Christians to inculcate the spirit of forgiveness and tolerance, this he said would provide them the armory to withstand the test of time. GBC
