KAIPTC accredited to run Post Graduate Programmes

The Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Centre, (KAIPTC) has received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board (NAB) to start running Post Graduate Programmes in Peace and Security Studies, in conjunction with the GIMPA.

The programmes seek to train a new generation of peace and security expert, needed to help solve the increasing conflicts in Africa.

KAIPTC was set up in 2004 and is recognized as one of the three ECOWAS designated Training Centres of Excellence in West Africa.

For seven years, the Centre has been committed to undertaking research into conflict and security issues out of which appropriate training courses have been developed and delivered for various military, police and civilian personnel involved in peace support operations not only in West Africa but in other parts of the world.

The Commandant of the Centre, Christian Dovlo, said he is delighted at the opportunity to train peace and security personnel at the highest level and indicated that Africa currently does not have enough trained peace and security personnel who understand conflict issues on the continent and who are well equipped to bring their expertise to bear on the resolution of such conflicts.

The programmes will start at the KAIPTC from the 13th of May this year with the Master of Arts Degree in Conflict Peace and Security Studies.

Other programmes to be run subsequently include a Master of Arts in Gender, Peace and Security, Post Graduate Diploma in Development Diplomacy, Post Graduate Certificate in Disarmament, Demobilization and Re-integration, Post Graduate Certificate in Security Sector Reform and Post Graduate Certificate in Integrated Peace Support Operations.
