NHIA terminates appointment of 3, dismisses 6

The National Health Insurance Authority has terminated the appointment of three employees and dismissed six for embezzlement of funds and other offences. 

The three, who had their appointments terminated are Elvis Amoakwah, Scheme Manager of the Ga Mutual Health Insurance Scheme, Bismark Adu Acheampong, Acting Scheme Accountant of the Sekyere East District Scheme and Aminu Tuferu, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the Upper East Regional Office. 

The six dismissed officials are Mahama Abdul-Karim Seini, PRO, Central Gonja District, Abdul Aziz Mohammed, Office Collector, Sekyere East District, Jerry Agbanu, Scheme Accountant, Adaklu-Anyigbe, Nsiah Peprah Yaw, Accounts Assistant, Sekyere East District and Paul Danklu, Accountant at the Ga Scheme. 

This was contained in statement signed by the Communications Manager of the NHIA, Dr Nii Annan Adjetey. 

He said the dismissal and termination of appointments which took effect on the 30th March, in part of ongoing measures by the authority to deal with abuse and fraud in scheme. 

The Communications Manager said in cases where frauds were embezzled or misappropriated, the authority is taking steps to recover the sums of money involved. 

He said offences which warrant prosecution have been referred to the state prosecution agencies for further action. 

The authority therefore reiterates its determination to tackle abuse and fraud in the NHIS. 

In this regard, financial and clinical audits are continuing at various scheme and provider sites across the country. 

In a related development, the NHIA last February announced the dismissal of 17 NHIS employees for various serious offences.
