At his inauguration at the Black star square in Accra, one of the major issues mentioned by the president and which has attracted the attention of analysts and commentators was the need for true separation of powers among the three arms of government.
President Akufo-Addo called for this proper separation in order to promote accountability.
According to him parliament must be truly independent and not seen as an extension of the executive.
Over the years the legislature and judiciary have been seen as extensions of the executive, taking decisions that many believe strengthens the Executive and not the citizenry.
The argument is that parliament is a rubber stamp, okaying every decision by the executive because the government in power has majority in the house.
But the President wants all to have a second look.
